TCT brings to you 2 nutritious and tasty home-cooked food recipes for your 9-to-12 months old..
Introducing new flavors and different type of solid foods to your baby’s diet after 6 months is a good idea. I started at around 5+ months and even though Brat H has been introduced to a few fruits, cereals, pulses, rice and veggies, however, I am still figuring out how and what more can be added to the diet of this 8 month old infant of mine. Next month, he will be in the 9-12 months old category! I know!! Time flies. Yah, so, since he is getting bigger, in my opinion, starting now, he can eat various foods that are cooked in our family meal. Ideally, depending on the appetite, the infant needs to be fed 2-3 meals and 1-2 snacks to your baby having a variety of fruits and vegetables.
TCT brings to you 2 yummy and super healthy home-cooked recipes for your infant that can be included in the diet anytime after 6 months..
1. Lentils with Carrots and Sweet Potato
You can make some really delicious recipes for your infant using lentils which are a great source of iron, protein and fiber. By the age of 6 months, babies run out of the iron they acquire from their mothers and therefore should be fed iron rich foods. Here is how to prepare this delicious food.
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 carrot, peeled and finely chopped or grated
- 60g red lentils
- 200g sweet potato, peeled and chopped
- 1 whole bay leaf (optional)
- 450ml water
Preparation: Melt butter in a medium saucepan and add carrots and lentils. Cook for 2 minutes and then add water, sweet potato and bay leaf. Allow the mixture to boil and then let it simmer for 30 minutes or more till the lentils are cooked. Remove the bay leaf and serve along with cooked rice. You can also serve it as a lentil puree.
2. Fruity Rice Pudding
This is an ideal breakfast recipe for your baby. Check out the recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup Brown Rice
- 2 cups water
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1/4 cup apples/banana, sliced into small pieces
- Very little sugar (optional)
- 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
- 1/4 tsp Cardamom powder (optional)
Preparation: Place a medium saucepan over medium-low heat and put all the ingredients together. Cook this mixture for 30 minutes until rice is soft and occasionally stir so that it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan. Remember to keep the consistency of this recipe soupy and not thick and add more water if required. You can add a bit of cardamom powder for the sake of taste! Serve it warm.
Here is hoping that the baby is going to love these finger-licking recipes and ask for more :)
